Located at 8711 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, VA, The Premier is an urban in-fill project situated between two office buildings. The ground level provides retail and parking. Parking and apartment amenities continue on floors one through four with residential units starting at the fifth floor.
The Premier's distinct architectural identity contributes to the creation of a diverse and rich neighborhood character, and helps define the Georgia Avenue corridor as an "urban boulevard" as desired in the Silver Spring CBD Sector Plan. Organized to complement the streetscape along Georgia Avenue, this 160-unit apartment building maximizes open space and public-use spaces.
As part of the public approvals process for the project, several elements were incorporated into the design. One of those elements is a public, pedestrian arcade that connects Georgia Avenue, on one side of the building, to the city’s major public garage on the other side of the building. A public art component, planned for the side of the building off of Fenton Street, was also part of public approvals project. The public art project turns an isolated back alley to a pedestrian friendly throughway.
150,000-sf, 14-story, 160-unit, apartment building over 6 levels of above and below grade parking and 2,500-sf retail.
